- Description/Excerpt: Since 1984, just 1 in 5 new Baldwin residents moved from across the bay, according to a Press-Register analysis of Internal Revenue Service data.
Factoring in the number of people who have moved the other direction, from Baldwin to Mobile, Baldwin's net gain is only about 13,000 people over the past 20 years -- less than one-tenth the county's total population.
More than half the people who moved to Baldwin County in the last 20 years came from either Florida or Alabama.
But many others came from throughout the country. More than 1,300 were from Houston. Nearly 1,200 were from Los Angeles and San Diego. Five hundred were from Chicago, and 18 people made the 2,885-mile journey from Seattle.
