- Description/Excerpt: Dan Tracy of the Orlando Sentinel used state campaign finance data to show that "building on a GOP takeover of the Legislature a decade ago and the election of Gov. Jeb Bush two years later, the Republican Party of Florida has turned control of state government into a torrent of campaign cash. During that nine-year-period, the state GOP has raised a total of $172.7 million, according to an Orlando Sentinel analysis of the money raised by both parties since 1997. That compares with $103 million by the Democrats." Florida Democrats now rely on labor unions and trial lawyers for one of every six dollars they raise.
