- Description/Excerpt: In the past 14 months, state investigators found three out of five restaurants inspected in Central Florida had at least 10 critical violations that could lead to food-borne-illness outbreaks, food contamination or other public-safety problems.
In at least three cases, the state concluded that diners got sick from food they ate, and food-borne illness was suspected in three other instances.
Nearly a third of the 7,802 Central Florida food sellers inspected by the state were cited for roach- or rodent-related violations, and two out of five establishments -- or 3,377 total -- were cited for poor hygienic practices such as workers not washing their hands, according to analysis of state records from July 1, 2006, through Sept. 2, 2007, by the Orlando Sentinel.
