- Description/Excerpt: The review of records examined fire hydrants in 70 cities. It looked at 151,894 hydrants across the region and found only 17 percent were given the kind of flow test recommended by the National Fire Protection Agency. Perhaps more startling, more than one-third of the hydrants tested failed to meet the agency's recommended guidelines.
In Aurora, records indicate that 57 Aurora hydrants were recorded as having zero pressure since 2004. At least another 90 had water pressure below the recommended standards.
However, the vast majority of Aurora's 8,600 hydrants are good. They are tested every three years, maintained and meet industry standards.
