- Description/Excerpt: In 2007, police caught quite a few drivers on U.S. 15 in Cumberland County. In all, 1,245 drivers were cited with speeding on the stretch of road that runs through Upper and Lower Allen townships, according to a Patriot-News analysis of 42,672 speeding citations issued last year in Cumberland, Dauphin, Lebanon, Perry and York counties.
Another 669 drivers were cited a little farther south on U.S. 15, near Franklintown.
State police cited another 1,183 drivers with speeding on Interstate 81 in Carlisle and South Middleton Twp., according to the data, obtained through the Administrative Office of Pennsylvania Courts. Harrisburg police nabbed an additional 478 speed demons on the 3000 block of North Front Street.
The AOPC data don't include motorists who received warnings or citations for obedience of traffic control devices. Those citations levy smaller fines and don't put points on violators' driver's licenses. If they did, the figures would be much higher.
