- Description/Excerpt: This decade, one person out of every 10 killed while snowmobiling in New York was 18 or younger, according to a Times Union computer-assisted analysis of more than 3,300 state accident records from the winter of 1999-2000 through January 2008. The records were recently obtained by the Times Union from the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.
Children accounted for 19 of 171 snowmobile-related deaths tallied during those nine winters. Hundreds more children were injured, many seriously.
