- Description/Excerpt: Marc Chase of the Times of Northwest Indiana used federal boat accident data to show that in the past 10 years, "operator inattention or inexperience led to at least 32 of the 101 accidents, or about 31.7 percent of the cases - the biggest single cause." Eighteen people died and 41 were injured in area accidents, and most of the boat operators involved lacked any safety training. Indiana does not require such training for adults.
