- Description/Excerpt: Since his campaign was formed in 1992, state Rep. Thomas Wright has not reported receiving 273 donations totaling $119,607 that political committees have said they sent to him, according to a Star-News analysis of disclosure reports.
The review of the N.C. State Board of Elections database of contributions shows that political committees have reported sending $311,594 to the New Hanover County Democrat's campaign. Wright reported $183,753 of those contributions. For some $8,234, both Wright and the committees reported contributions, but the amounts reported differed.
It's not clear why the discrepancy exists or whether, in all cases, money that donors reported giving to Wright's campaign actually wound up there. In some cases, checks for donations not reported by Wright's campaign might have been returned or even lost.
